Can a person suffering from a transmitted disease marry?

disease

Question:

Genital Warts is considered an S.T.D.; a sexually transmitted disease.  It appears that Western medicine has not found a cure for Genital Warts. It is also a disease that is transferable. If a Muslim or Muslimah has contracted this disease or another S.T.D. for which a cure has not been found, than what is the Islamic verdict on them when it comes to marriage? Are they totally banned from getting married?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sickness and cure is in the control of Allah Ta’ālā.  Allah Ta’ālā can cure whom He wants and when He wants.  It has nothing to do with medical advancement and research.  Allah is not in need of discovered medicine to cure someone.  Allah can use any medium He wants to cure the person.  Allah Ta’ālā is not even in need of a medium.  He can grant cure to the person without a medium.

It is permissible for such a person to marry.  However, before marrying, they must disclose this illness to any prospective spouse.

And Allah Ta’ālā Knows Best
