Is homeopathy treatment/medicine halal in islam?
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine according to which a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people can cure similar symptoms in sick people. Homeopathy is based on the principle that you can treat ‘like with like’, that is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms.
The remedies are prepared by repeatedly diluting a chosen substance in alcohol or distilled water, followed by forceful striking on an elastic body – a process called succussion.
In the absence of any alternative, it will be permissible to make use of homeopathic medicine on condition a competent Muslim doctor advises the use thereof.
