Question:

Do i have to read a few aayahs after doing sajdah tilawah, or can i go straight in ruku.

The Fatwa

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The Answer

It is disliked going immediately into Rukūʿ without reciting any verses of the Qur’an after performing a Sajdah Tilāwah. One should recite a few verses and then perform Rukūʿ.

The Fiqh of the Answer

Imam Ibn al-Humām (d.861 AH), Imam al-Sarakhsī (d.483 AH) and other Fuqahā’ state that when one stands up from performing Sajdah Tilāwah, they should recite a few verses and then perform Rukū’. The binā’ of this Mas’alah is that Ṣalāh has been ordained in a particular form. The Iqāmah of Ṣalāh and correct performance of Ṣalāh in its Kāmil form is to perform it in the order and manner taught to us. Even in transitory deviation from that order, such as the performing of Sajdah Tilāwah from Qiyām, the order is immediately maintained and adhered to. This transitory deviation is permitted due to learning it from the Shāriʿ directly. Besides this, the order will be maintained as much as possible, and to the fullest extent as possible. That order reflects Khushūʿ and the inner, deeper meanings attained from Ṣalāh.

If a few verses were not recited after the Sajdah Tilāwah, and a person went immediately into Rukūʿ,  then the Salāh will still be valid, albeit disliked, as mentioned by Imam al-Tahtāwī (d.1231 AH).
