Question:

Is it permissible to have a really high amount as Mahr?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

 The Answer:

Although there is no cap for the maximum amount of Mahr, it is discouraged to have excessive and exorbitant amounts as Mahr. Sayyiduna Umar advised:

Do not be excessive in the mahr of women. If it was honourable in this world or piety before Allah Ta’āla, then Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) would have been the first of you to do it. I do not know that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) married any of his wives or gave any of his daughters in marriage for more than twelve uqiyah.” (Tirmidhi: 1114)
