Question:
Would it be preferable to make a new wudu for salaat al ishraaq when i stay in the mosque after fajr?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Wuḍū’ is an act of `ibādah and has many virtues and benefits. Some of the benefits and virtues include:
1) purification of the body and soul[i]
2) a means of forgiveness of minor sins[ii]
3) a means of adornment in the hereafter[iii]
4) a means of distinguishing oneself from others on the day of judgement[iv]
5) a means of elevating one’s status in the hereafter[v]
6) Punctuality and consistency of being in the state of wuḍū’ signifies and highlights one Imān.[vi]
If one has performed an `ibādah such as ṣalāh, tilāwah of the Qur`ān with a wuḍū’ which was performed earlier, it is encouraged and mustaḥab (preferable) to perform wuḍhū’ afresh for another act of `ibādah.[vii]
However, if one was to perform wuḍū’ a second time without performing any act of worship or without any valid intention or without being engaged in any other activity in between the first and second wuḍū’, it will be regarded as wasting water and extravagance, although the wuḍū’ will be valid.
Thus, it is encouraged to perform wuḍu’ again for performing nafl ṣalāh after sunrise.
And Allah Ta’ālā Knows Best
