Question:

What is the ruling of products containing collagen?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Collagen is a group of naturally occurring proteins found in animals, especially in the flesh and connective tissues of vertebrates. It is the main component of connective tissue, and is the most abundant protein in mammals.  Gelatine, which is used in food and industry, is collagen that has been irreversibly hydrolysed.[1]
Collagen derived from halāl animals not slaughtered according to the Islamic rituals of slaughter will be unlawful for consumption.[2]
