Is Zakat due on money lent to my brother?

The answer

According to the Hanafi school, Zakat is obligatory on a loan every year. However, one has the option to pay the Zakat yearly or pay for all the outstanding years retrospectively upon receiving the money.

In short: Zakat is due on the loan yearly, or for all years on repayment.
